Guru is the sanskrit word for Teacher.

The word guru is derived from two syllables: Gu, which signifies “light” (jyoti, sattwa), and Ru, which signifies “darkness” (tamas).

The word therefore is translated as “the light that removes the darkness and ignorance.”
